When you visit us for microneedling in Knoxville, we start your treatment by applying a topical anesthetic to your skin. We will wait for the medication to take full effect before starting your treatment.

At Aesthetic Elevation Knoxville, we usually recommend 3 sessions of microneedling for the best results. Your skin will improve in texture and tone after each session, and by undergoing multiple sessions, the effects accumulate for an even greater effect.

Depending on your specific concerns, we may recommend more sessions or maintenance sessions to enhance your results. Your provider will give a professional recommendation when you come in for your visit.

Because microneedling primarily promotes your skin’s natural healing processes, your skin needs time to recover and for the results to become visible. On average, improvements take about 3 to 4 weeks to become visible after each session.

After completing your full course of treatments, you can expect your results to last up to 12 months. At this point, we can schedule periodic maintenance sessions to help extend and enhance your results.

Before your microneedling session, let your provider know if you’re prone to any recurring infections, like cold sores, so we can discuss whether microneedling is right for you. If you have any irritated skin or open wounds the day before your appointment, please let us know. We cannot perform microneedling on active breakouts or open wounds, but we’ll work with you to reschedule your appointment at a convenient time.

Also, let us know if you’ve used isotretinoin (Accutane) within the last 6 months. Isotretinoin can impede wound healing. If you recently used tanning spray or lotions on the treatment areas before your microneedling, tell your provider. Also, let us know if you’re currently on autoimmune therapy.

Starting 24 hours before your microneedling, avoid sun exposure and drink extra water. Don’t use any products containing AHA, retinol, or vitamin A.

Immediately after your microneedling in Knoxville, you may experience redness for 1 to 3 days, depending on the intensity of your treatment. You may experience some slight swelling in the treated area, and your skin may feel like you have a mild to moderate sunburn. These are all completely normal.

For the first 24 hours after microneedling, do not apply any makeup or sunscreen. Strictly avoid the sun during this time, since your skin will be extra sensitive to sunlight. After 24 hours, you can start wearing sunscreen, but you should minimize sun exposure for another 48 hours.

For 72 hours, avoid strenuous exercise or excessive sweating. Do not use hot tubs or saunas. Wait to resume your normal exercise routine until your skin has healed.

Before you leave, your provider will talk through your skincare routine. We will let you know which products are safe to use while your skin heals. Only use the products designated by your clinician to hydrate your skin; you can reapply these products as needed during the first 24 hours but do not use any unapproved skincare products.
