RiaRob Recollects: On The Other Side

It has been about a month since my last post and so much has changed. Deciding to take stock of self can be a fear-filled, tedious task, but ere I am on the other side. Here’s a few things RiaRob has been into over the past month:

  1. I finished school! On Saturday, I graduated with My Master of Science in Information Systems from Strayer University. This culminated a journey I began almost 10 years ago while working as an administrative assistant. I remember sitting at the desk and promising myself that I would like to have my undergraduate and graduate degrees by the time my son was age 10. Mission Accomplished!
  2. My son is now a tween! The added bonus of graduating last Saturday? Commencement landed right on my son’s 10th birthday and the start time was at the exact moment, 10 years to the day when the doctor pulled him out of my womb by C-section. It does not get and better (or symbolic) than that. To know that my little boy was watching his mommy walk across that stage is a feeling beyond words.
  3. Finally coming out from under my rock! Truthfully, I have been laying extremely low in my social life and even within social media. I wanted to take some time and simply get my mind right in order to determine my next steps. Social media can be a drain (and a pain) at time.
  4. I’m joining the cause! Having contributed a deliverable for this year’s National Association of Black Journalist’s Annual Convention’s Learning Labs and joined the DC Chapter of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, reaching out has definitely been a step in the right direction. I am looking forward to exploring my writing even more within these organizations. Joining select organizations satisfies my need to champion good causes and give back in some way.

I am a firm believer and a living witness to he fact that change is inevitable. The changes that occur are not as important as how we respond and act in the midst of said change. I am ready for new challenges. It is with this post that I encourage each of you to simply believe that change can be great even though it may not feel so great during the process. Believe in your self enough to give YOU a chance.

Here’s to change and all that it brings!

Rise above!
