As I navigate through my journey, I always smile when I think of all the great writers that I know as an adult. Even better is the fact that many are personal friends of mine. When I am able to blog about their accomplishments, I’m even more grateful.
As an avid book reader (can’t get with the Kindle just yet), I am always excited and willing to support a fellow writer when they are releasing a book. With the launch for Marlon Green’s current release, Get Money. The author of Making Love in the Rain and Butter is back with a guaranteed modern-day street classic. You won’t want to put this one down.
Green’s latest novel channels the late great Donald Goines, as Fox, a beautiful woman for a penchant for fast cars and faster money as she maneuvers her way through the drug culture and all the perils that come with it. I’m maneuvering my book shelf so I can sit it next to my copy of Goines’ classic Crime Partners. Make sure you buy this book. Here is RiaRob’s rundown

4:00 p.m. I’m greeted by the lovely ladies of Budget Fab, an event company specializing in events spanning three hours or less. I am escorted to my setup for this event. Looking forward to see what unfolds.

See these books. Buy these books. Love these books.

Signature drink specials (which I heard were very good)

The book revolution will be televised!
4:15 p.m. Checking out the layout. Signature drinks, book cover on the flat screen. Book table with plenty books to sell. All in a small section of the restaurant. Amazing how event planners can modify any space, big or small.
4:20 p.m. I meet LaKeisha Green, the author’s better half. I congratulate her on the upcoming birth of their son. She rubs her belly proudly and asks if I want any. I mention my seven-year-old who is the equivalent of two children and shake my head.
4:30 p.m. More well wishers fill the room. I meet Chris, the official photographer for the event. Very cool guy, personable. I make a mental note as I know a few event planners who may want to use him on their roster.

Author Marlon Green, signing copies of his latest novel, Get Money
5:00 p.m. With so many people coming and going, laughing and perusing the books, I spot the man of the hour talking with friends who came out to support. Then he’s enveloped amongst the crowd again. It’s good to see someone supported in this fashion.
5: 30 p.m. Ebony Brice, the videographer, sets up near where I’m stationed. She proceeds to videotape one of many trips down memory lane, congratulatory sentiments, and well wishes. Hard to get a shot of her as she is working it. That camera is glued to her. I see you Ebony!
6:00 p.m. More supporters swell the crowd. This is a really great turnout! Chat with folks who finally decide to stop by my table. I don’t bite, y’all…
6:45 p.m. I start wrapping up as even more people are coming in to celebrate. But not before getting my copy of Get Money autographed. Shoot, I may be holding a collector’s item. My son can tell his kids about how back in the day a literary giant named Marlon Green wrote books that he read as a teenager. Like I said before, watch out Goines.
Until next time, rise above.
